Social Enterprise London commissioned a site for their new project Shopsocialenterprise.com. The brief was to create a website that raises awareness of the social enterprise sector to focus on bringing new buyers and social enterprise sellers to a virtual marketplace. The site also raises awareness about social enterprise and local government procurement. The site is built around a database of goods and services on which shoppers can search in order to identify the product they wish to procure. Shopkeepers can log in and upload their products and services to be listed on the website in an easy to use content management system. Once a shopper has found a product, the site will either send an email order to the relevant shopkeeper(s) for dispatch with an invoice or send an email as an expression of interest, depending on how the product or service can be procured. Shopkeepers can also sell their products by credit card by linking into the Paypal payment method. Shop SEL staff have the ability through easy to use administration panels to maintain content on all areas of the website whilst ensuring that all content submitted by 3rd party social enterprises is suitable. The website has been a complete success that has not only raised awareness of the social enterprise sector but has also resulted in online sales and service promotion.
